Arcelor calls board meeting to assess Mittal offer

BRUSSELS, May 19 (Reuters) Steelmaker Arcelor will hold a board meeting today to assess rival Mittal Steel's improved takeover offer.

''A meeting of Arcelor's board of directors has been called to evaluate the details of the Mittal Steel offer, including the new terms and conditions announced today,'' a company spokesman said on Friday without disclosing the timing.

''No reaction or recommendation to our shareholders will be made prior to that meeting,'' he added.
