AP summer storm toll mounts to 28
Hyderabad, May 19 (UNI) Twenty-eight people have been killed in the freak summer storm in ten districts with more casualties coming to light even as the rain caused by upper air circulation continued to lash coastal Andhra Pradesh.
According to official sources, 28 people died and 14 injured in various weather-related incidents last night. Twenty-four houses were partially damaged.
Visakhapatnam, Krishna, Guntur, Prakasham, Chittoor, Kadapa, Adilabad, Warangal Khammam and Nalgonda suffered crop losses due to the inclement weather.
The government announced a relief of Rs 50,000 to the kin of deceased. It will also provide an assistance of Rs 1,500 for houses destroyed and Rs 750 for those partially damaged.
According to a preliminary assessment, 45,000 acre of crop have been damaged due to unseasonal rains. The District Collectors were also asked to submit a report on the damages in three days, they added.
