AHSCS unhappy with govt's response, bandh to continue

Itanagar, May 19 (UNI) Unhappy with the 'partial response' of the state government, the All Hrusso (Aka) Socio-Cultural Society (AHSCS) today resolved to continue its the scheduled two-day bandh beginning in all the Aka dominated areas of West Kameng district.

The bandh entered the second day today.

The Akas are protesting against the government decision to establish an additional deputy commissioner (ADC) headquarters at Singchung near Tenga instead of at Thrizino, which they have been demanding for long. Chief Minister Gegong Apang is scheduled to inaugurate the ADC headquarters today.

In a last minute bid to dissuade the Akas from going ahead with the bandh, the district administration had an emergency meeting with the AHSCS leaders at Tippi on Wednesday but without any success.

AHSCS Spokesman S Nimasow claimed that yesterday a faxed message was received from the secretary, general administration, informing that Jameri-Bhalukpong block (Aka dominated) was not to be included under the jurisdiction of the newly declared ADC administration at Singchung (Bugun dominated) as proposed earlier. However, Singchung administration would constitute of Kamengbari-Doimara and Singchung-Tenga blocks, the faxed message informed.

The inclusion of this block under Singchung was one of the major contentions of the Akas.

''This is a partial response from the government. While accepting one of the conditions, the government remains silent on the issue of upgrading Thrizino into ADC headquarters, our main demand,'' said Nimasow.

He also questioned the government's 'abrupt' decision to exclude Jameri-Bhalukpong block from the jurisdiction of Singchung. ''If Jameri-Bhalukpong block is excluded from Singchung administration then creating an ADC post there holds no water as according to official norms the population of Singchung administrative Block would fall short of the required number,'', he argued.

The bandh affected life along the Aka belt of the district.
