39 lakh to be administered polio drops on Sunday
Chandigarh, May 19 (UNI) As many as 39 lakh children in the age group of 0-5 years would be immunised against Polio in Haryana in the second round of the campaign on National Immunization Day on May 21.
While stating this today, Health Minister, Mrs Kartar Devi urged the people to cooperate with the health authorities in getting their children immunised against Polio.
She said that the Polio vaccine would be administered to the targeted children at 15,300 Polio booths all over the state. She urged the people to bring their children to the Polio booths on that day for their immunisation.
Special teams would also visit households to administer Polio vaccine to the children, who might have not been covered on the first day of the campaign. The health department has also formed special teams to cover children in transit, especially in buses and at brick kilns.
Meanwhile, the Chief Secretary has directed all Divisional and Deputy Commissioners to involve various departments like Women and Child Development, Education, Rural Development, Development and Panchayats, Urban Development, Transport and Food and Supplies for effective implementation of the campaign.
The first round of the National Polio Campaign was conducted on April nine last.
As a result of the effective steps taken by the state Health Department, the number of polio cases has dropped from 37 in 2002 to just one in 2005.
