Woman militant throws grenade; 3 ultras killed in Kashmir

Srinagar, May 18 (UNI) In the first ever such incident, a woman militant threw a hand grenade on a Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) picket in the downtown city today, killing a civilian and wounding two others, CRPF Spokesman Dilip Singh Ambesh said.

Elsewhere in the Kashmir valley, three militants were killed while 25 others, including a CRPF personnel, wounded.

Mr Ambesh told UNI that the woman militant threw the grenade from her white Maruti car on the Force's 160 battalion picket at Saraf Kadal in the downtown city at 1645 hrs this afternoon.

The grenade missed the intended target and exploded on the roadside, resulting in injuries to three civilians, including a woman, the spokesman added.

Mr Ambesh said one of the wounded, Farooq Ahmed, a resident of Baghat-e-Kanipora in the city outskirts, was rushed to a hospital in a critical condition.

However, he died on way to the hospital, the spokesman said.

The banned Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) militant outfit has claimed the responsibility for the attack.
