US to propose treaty on fissile material--diplomats
GENEVA, May 18 (Reuters) The United States today will present a draft global treaty aimed at halting production of nuclear bomb-making fissile material, diplomatic sources said.
Stephen Rademaker, Acting Assistant US Secretary in the bureau of international security and nonproliferation, will outline the proposal in a speech to the United Nations-backed Conference on Disarmament (CD), they added.
''The United States will present a complete draft fissile material 'cut-off' treaty,'' a diplomatic source told Reuters ahead of the session in Geneva. ''It is the first time a member state is doing so.'' REUTERS MIR SSC1312
