Singapore out of contention for Asian Games hockey
Dhaka, May 18 (UNI) Singapore are virtually out of contention for a berth in the Asian Games men's hockey competition after playing a goalless draw with Iran in the qualifying tournament here.
The draw leaves the minnows needing a win against undefeated home team Bangladesh -- which had already qualified for the continental event -- in their final match and then rely on Oman and Sri Lanka slipping badly in their remaining two matches.
Four teams qualify for the Asian Games to be held in Doha from December 2 to 14.
Standings: 1. Bangladesh (10) 2-3. Hong Kong (9), Chinese Taipei (9) 4. Oman (7) 5. Singapore (4) 6. Sri Lanka (3) 7. Iran (1) UNI XC PDS DH HS1937
