Punjab beat TN 2-0, move into semis in U-21 national football

Jamalpur, Bihar, May 18: Punjab stormed into the semi-finals of the 15th U-21 National Football Championship for Dutta Roy Trophy beating Tamil Nadu 2-0 in a Group 'A' match here today.

Playing their last group match, the winners led 1-0 at the half time through a goal by Sehijpal Singh in the 20th minute.

Kumar Nayyar made it 2-0 in 82nd minute.

With today's win, Punjab top the group with all-win record in the three-team group, Bihar being the third. The winner of Bihar and Tamil Nadu match on May 20 will decide the group runners-up.

In Group 'B', which has four teams, West Bengal had earlier booked a semi-final berth with two wins from two outings, while Mizoram and Kerala have recorded one win and one loss each and Services languishing at the bottom without a win from two outings.

Kerala play Mizoram and West Bengal meet Services tomorrow in their last group matches.

The semi-finals are slated for May 22 and 23 and final on May 25.
