Port-owners delegation meets Sonia on release of Gujarat fishermen

New Delhi, May 18 (UNI) A delegation of port-owners from Gujarat led by Congress Legislature Party (CLP) leader Arjun Modbadia today met Congress President Sonia Gandhi on the issue of the release of the state's fishermen, being held in Pakistani jails.

The 45-member delegation told Ms Gandhi that as many as five to seven fishermen of the state were lodged in Pakistani jails and 287 fishing boats had also been seized.

Mr Modbadia told UNI that Ms Gandhi assured the delegation that she would talk to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on this issue and the government would take up the matter with the Pakistani authorities.

The delegation also submitted a memorandum to Ms Gandhi in this regard.
