PM to lay foundation stone for Vizag Steel Plant

Visakhapatnam, May 18: Prime Minister Manmohan Singh will lay the foundation stone for the Rs 8692 crore second phase expansion project of Visakhapatnam Steel Plant on May 20.

The project is aimed at increasing the capacity of Vizag Steel Plant to 6.3 million tonnes from the present 3.5 million tonnes.

Andhra Pradesh Commercial Taxes Minister Konathala Rama Krishna said elaborate security arrangements were being made for the visit.

Dr Singh will also launch the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM) scheme to make Visakhapatnam a mega city.

He said the urban scheme would be taken up with an investment of Rs 100 crore while proposals for another Rs 200 crore were also being sent.
