Nine killed by suspected Akhilesh Singh gang in Bihar
Biharsharif, May 18 (UNI) Altogether nine people were gunned down by the suspected criminal gang of Akhilesh Singh during electioneering for Panchayat elections at Gawachack village of Sarmera block in Nalanda district today.
Police said the deceased were campaigning for Yogendra Ram, contesting for the Sarmor Panchayat Samiti under Sarmera block of Nalanda district.
Polling in Sarmera block is slated for May 21 in the third phase of Panchayat elections.
Earlier, a member of Akhilesh Singh group was shot dead in the area and today's incident was said to be engineered by the gang, which attacked the people and fired indiscriminately when the latter were taking some refreshment outside a house in course of their electoral campaign in the village.
A police contingent has been rushed to the area, where tension was running high.
