Lankan conflict: More refugees arriving at Mandapam camps
Rameswaram, Tamil Nadu May 18 (UNI) As many as 874 Tamil refugees from 322 families from Sri Lanka have reached the refugee camps at Mandapam , following the outbreak of fierce fighting between the Sri Lankan army and the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam.
According to official sources, the refugees left Talaimanner in three mechanised boats and landed at Dhanushkoti, 40 km from Mandapam.
Out of 874 refugees, 328 were men, 294 women and 252 children.
The refugees were from Trincomalee, Vavunia, Yazhpanam and Tiruvamalai, among others, the sources added.
