Hotline power to ensure water supply in villages
Chandigarh, May 18 (UNI) The Haryana government has come up with a special scheme of ''hotline power facilities'' to ensure water supply in rural areas in the state facing power shortage.
Special feeders with committed power lines to rural areas were being provided to ensure that the people in the villages got water supply even when there were power cuts otherwise, Haryana Public Health Minister Randeep Singh Surjewala said today.
The scheme was being implemented on an experimental basis in five villages in Gurgaon district and A sum of Rs four crore have been earmarked for the purpose.
If the scheme proved to be successful, it would be replicated in other rural areas of the state, the Minister said.
In another experimental scheme, the Haryana government was using twinoxide instead of bleaching powder to purify water.
As compared to the bleaching powder which remained effective for about one and a half hour, twinoxide had the potential to remain effective for 72 hours besides being odourless and colourless.
Twinoxide was being used in five cities of Ambala City, Ambala Cantt, Karnal, Kurukshetra and Panipat for the past one year.
Though, it was three times more expensive as compared to the bleaching powder yet twinoxide has been adopted because of its merits.
Twinoxide would be used for other towns also in a phased manner, the Minister said.
