Govt aware of delays in CBI probe, not to set timeframe

New Delhi, May 18 (UNI) Eventhough the government is aware of the adverse remarks made by various courts against the slow functioning of the Central Bureau of Investigation, it was not contemplating any guidelines for fixing time schedule for investigation in any matter, Parliament was informed today.

In a written reply in the Rajya Sabha Minister of State for Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions Suresh Pachauri admitted that the government was aware of the adverse remarks made by the High Court of Jharkhand and many other courts about the slow functioning of the CBI.

However, the government was not contemplating to issue any guidelines for fixing the time schedule of the investigation in any matter, he clarified.

The minister, in response to another question said that the government has been pursuing the policy of zero tolerance against corruption at all levels by bringing transparency and accountability.

He said that a twenty member Chinese delegation had held talks with CBI officials on vigilance and anti-corruption measures. Anti- corruption measures taken by Indian government were discussed and issues of bilateral cooperation in the area of anti-corruption were also deliberated.

In another reply, he said that the government was considering revision of pay scale of Assistants from 5500-175-9000 to 6500-200-10500 to satisfy the demands of the Central Secretariat Service Officers.

He said the government has already accepted the recommendations of the Committee on Cadre re-structuring of Central Secretariat Service and further granted Non-Functional pay scale of Rs 8000--275-13500 notionally w.e.f. from January 1996.
