New Delhi, May 18 (UNI) As many as eight global grain traders submitted their bids for a tender to supply wheat to India with Australian Wheat Board (AWB) offer to supply highest quantity of around 12 lakh tonnes of the total requirement of 30 lakh tonnes.

Others who offered to supply small quantities of wheat between July and October included Cargill, Glencore and other European and US companies. The cumulative offer from all of the bidders falls short of Indian demand of 30 lakh tonnes, official sources said.

The tender floated by the State Trading Corporation (STC) last week, was closed today. However, processing of the bids will take some time and range of price offered by bidders was not immediately known.

The AWB, Australia's monopoly exporter, has already been supplying wheat to India at 179.5 dollar tonne f.o.b. These bids will be valid till May 30.
