Detained ULFA ultras to be produced before Siliguri Court

Siliguri, May 18 (UNI) Four hardcore ULFA militants, including Mrinal Hazarika, will be produced before the Siliguri court today after they were detained by the West Bengal Police in Siliguri.

Inspector General of Police (North Bengal) Kishanlal Meena said here today Hazarika alias Plaban Phukan, Jagat Barua alias Munu Barua, Mahesh Gupta and Pradeep were picked up yesterday from Pradhan Nagar and Bidhan Nagar hotels in Siliguri.

Hazarika, who was an ULFA 28 Battalion 'Commander', had come to North Bengal to strengthen the outfit's base in the region, he said.

''They had been to Nepal and it is assumed that they are trying to tie up with the Maoists in Nepal to expand its work in North Bengal,'' he said.

Mr Meena said they have asked for more information about the ultras from Asom police.

A SAT-phone, two cell phones, a revolver, two cartridges, Rs 20,000 and 13 Nepal currency were recovered from them.
