New Delhi, May 18 (UNI) The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) today approved development of a six-lane highway between Vadodara and Surat on build, operate and transfer (BOT) basis.

An upfront negative grant of Rs 975 crore has already been offered in a competitive bidding procedure, said Minister for Information and Broadcasting P.R. Dasmunshi .

The CCEA has approved for incurring pre-construction expenditure for fulfilling the obligations of the employer under concession agreement estimated at Rs 55.46 crore.

The project benefits include improved traffic safety, faster movement of vehicles with improved riding quality and less time of travel. This will result in reduction in vehicle operating cost and significant reduction in fuel consumption for the vehicle and energy conservation.

The stretch between Vadodara-Surat is on national highway number 8 in Gujurat and is part of the Golden Quadrilateral.
