Vishwakarma Jayanti to be observed as Labour Day in MP
Bhopal, May 17 (UNI) Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has announced that Vishwakarma Jayanti will be observed as State Labour Day.
Addressing the 17th triennial convention of Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangh here yesterday, Mr Chouhan said the state government was committed to safeguard the interest of workers.
Among the measures taken for welfare of workers, he listed recruitment of teachers, sanctioning additional dearness allowance to employees, construction of waiting sheds for workers, raising the honorarium of Anganwadi workers and amending the labour laws to protect the interests of workers.
Labour Minister Jagdish Deora said identity cards were being issued to workers, particularly in the construction sector, entitling them to health care and insurance schemes. The state government would always be ready to hold dialogue with trade unions on labour issues, he added.
