New Delhi, May 17 (UNI) The government today acknowledged in Parliament a shortage of senior faculty-- especially Information Technology-- in technical colleges.

In a written reply in the Lok Sabha, Minister of State for Human Resource Development M A A Fatmi said the All India Council of Technical Education was taking steps to overcome it.

Mr Fatmi said to attract and retain bright, talented and competent professionals on faculty, the Council ran research and institutional development schemes.

Its Emeritus Fellowship scheme, for instance, tapped the experience and expertise of superannuated faculty while Visiting Professorship supplements expertise in host institutes, he said.

He said for the next two years, Professors' working age has been increased from 65 to 70 years and for 2006-07 the 1:2:4 cadre ratio for Professor, Assistant Professor and Lecturer has been relaxed to 1:2:6.
