Sensex re-enters 12,000 zone with 261 pts gain

Mumbai, May 17: BSE Sensex made strong recovery this morning and traded 261 points up at 12,142.45 points compared to the last close of 11,873 points.

Earlier, the Bombay Stock Exchange's (BSE) sensitive index (Sensex) opened 89 points up at 11,962 points as compared to the last close of 11,873 and crossed 12,000 mark touching a high of 12,144 points.

The Sensex top gainers were Tata Steel, Hero Honda, ITC, Tata Motors, Bajaj Auto, ONGC, Reliance and Reliance Energy.

The National Stock Exchange (NSE) S&P CNX Nifty Index was up by 59 points at 3,582 points at 1245 hrs.
