Sensex gains more than 340 points in afternoon to 12,214 pts.

Mumbai, May 17 (UNI) BSE Sensex made strong recovery this afternoon up by 340 points at 12,214 points around 1450 hrs.

Earlier, the Bombay Stock Exchange's (BSE) sensitive index (Sensex) opened 89 points up at 11,962 points as compared to the last close of 11,873 and crossed 12,000 mark in the morning.

The Sensex top gainers were Tata Steel, Hero Honda, ITC, Tata Motors, Bajaj Auto, ONGC, Reliance and Reliance Energy.

The National Stock Exchange (NSE) S&P CNX Nifty Index was up by 108 points at 3,631 points.

The Nifty top gainers were VSNL, Tata Steel, ONGC, Hero Honda, NALCO, SBI, ITC, Punjab National Bank, SAIL, Bajaj Auto.
