ONGC trounce AP team in public sector hockey tournament

Chandigarh, May 17 (UNI) Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC), Dehra dun routed Singareni Collieries Company Limited, Andhra Pradesh 6-0 in the opening match of the Public Sector Hockey Tournament being played at the Sector 42 Hockey Stadium here this evening.

Playing like a well-oiled machine, ONGC outplayed the Andhra Pradesh team in all depatments of the game. They opened their account in the eighth minute after ONGC were awarded a penalty stroke and Mohd Faid converted it in a smooth action. The stroke was awarded as an ONGC forward was stick-checked inside the striking circle.

Hardly had the cheers of the ONGC supporters died down when Mohd Faid struck another goal in the next minute to make it 2-0 for his team. Later Rajdeep (14th), Prabhjot Singh (31st), Amarjit (36th) and Vivek Gupta (37th) contributed one goal each to swell the ONGC's victory margin.
