More than 300 students with spl abilities appeared in CICSE exams
New Delhi, May 17 (UNI) More than 300 students with special abilities appeared for the board exams conducted by the Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations (CICSE), results for which were announced today.
These students are those who are either partially blind, have dyslexia or other learning disabilities, Head of the CISCE research department Poonam Sodhi told UNI.
''We provide special privileges to such candidates, when they appear for the exams, like giving 15 minutes extra time for every hour of the paper and making special arrangements for their seating.'' Besides this, in some cases they are exempted from 'language' papers, she said.
''Also, their spelling errors are overlooked and calculators are allowed in special cases for numerical calculations.'' Ms Sodhi also informed that the new syllabus for the board would be ready by September, exams for which would be held in 2009.
''The two year period is for preparation of the students of classes IX&X and classes XI&XII.'' While there are a total of 1,863 schools (1,277 - Class X, and 586 - Class XII) in India following the CISCE pattern, four schools abroad -- Dubai, Singapore, Indonesia and Sharjah -- are running on our syllabus, she added.
