Mizoram govt to invest Rs 60 crores in new power projects

Aizawl, May 17 (UNI) The state power and electricity department will spend Rs 60 crore for seven new projects during 2007 to improve power supply in the region.

The new schemes include three hydel projects and work for improvement of four sub-stations and distribution networks in the region tentatively by next year, additional chief engineer of power department H L Parthasarathy told UNI here today.

The power department has taken up the projects under non-lapsable central pool of resources.

The improvement of sub-stations and distribution networks within the region would cost Rs 32 crore with 85 per cent physical achievement.

Construction of 132 KV line from Bairabi to Bawtlang in Kolasib district would be taken up at a cost of Rs 4.56 crore, he added.

Work for another 132 KV double circuit transmission line from Kolasib to Seruli at a cost of Rs 3.15 crore and 132 KV double circuit transmission line from Kolasib to Melriat sub-station costing Rs 21.51 crore were also in the pipeline, he said.

The department has also taken up three hydel projects-- Maicham stage-II (3MW), Seruli B (12MW) and Lamsial (500MW) of which Seruli B hydel project has already been awared to BHEL-MECON company, he said.

''We have also taken up construction of 132KV lines from Saitual to Darlawn, from Khawzawl to Lungdar and from Khawzawl to Ngopa under North Eastern Council scheme,'' he said.
