K'taka Govt takes up Rs 180 cr project to desilt 700 tanks

Bangalore, May 17 (UNI) The Karnataka Government has taken up a Rs 180 crore project to desilt/rejuvenate 700 tanks, Deputy Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa informed today.

Talking to newspersons here, he said the Government would also take up another Centrally-sponsored project to rejuvenate 299 tanks in Bangalore and Gulbarga districts. He held a meeting of officials to discuss these projectd and directed them to pay surprise visits during project implementation.

Mr Yediyurappa said the Government needed Rs 56 crore for completing and maintaining ongoing projects in the Cauvery basin.

He warned of stringent action against encroachers of lands in the tank beds.

To a question, he denied that the Government had allotted land to private property developers in the name of Information Technology as alleged by senior Congress leader and former Minister H K Patil.
