Indian films 'immensely' popular in Tajikistan
Mumbai, May 17 (UNI) A nine-member Parliamentary delegation of the Republic of Tajikistan led by Chairman of Majlisi Namoyandagon (Lower House of Parliament) S Khairulloev today met Maharashtra Governor S M Krishna at Raj Bhavan here.
The delegation is on a visit to India to see the functioning of the Indian Parliament and State legislatures.
Mr Khairulloev told the Governor that Tajikistan which became an independent State in 1991 is rich in energy production (hydro-electric power) and cotton and is keen on developing close ties with India.
The told Mr Krishna that Indian films, with their focus on love and human relations, are immensely popular in Tajikistan.
''Everybody in Tajikistan knows Indian star (the late) Raj Kapoor'', he added.
Mr Khairulloev was accompanied by Chairman of the Committee on Power Engineering and Industry M Islomiddinov and members of Committees on International Affairs, Science, Education, Culture, Youth Policy and Local Self Government.
