Haryana leads in foreign investment in industrial sector

Chandigarh, May 17 (UNI) Haryana ranks first in the country in implementation of the Industrial Entrepreneur Memoranda (IEMs) or Letter of Intent which has attracted adequate investment from the foreign countries for setting up modern industrial units in the state.

An official spokesman of the Industries Department said here today that more than 73 IEMs were under implementation which would create investment of over Rs 2252 crore. He said that in the year 2005-06 as many as 175 IEMs catalyzing investment of Rs 1557 crore had been filed by the end of February this year for creating bright industrial scenario and more job opportunities for the youth in the state.

The spokesperson also informed that Haryana ranked sixth in the country based on the IEMs filed by the entrepreneurs for setting up their industrial ventures. He said that the state had received investment proposals of over than Rs 10,000 crore for setting up of industry in the field of automobiles and automotive components, information technology, readymade garments, electrical goods, handlooms, agro based and food processing industry and light engineering.

He said that during the last financial year as many as 21 new large and medium industries and 820 new small scale industries were set up with investment of Rs 430 crore. Presently the state had about 1000 projects with foreign technical or financial collaboration in various industrial sectors of Haryana.

The spokesman said that after the liberalisation of economy, 284 units were registered with the Union government as hundred per cent Export Oriented Units. Out of these, 128 EOUs have gone into production, creating investment of Rs 1739 crore and providing employment to 14,947 persons.
