Haryana govt buys Malathion for tackling malaria

Chandigarh, May 17 (UNI) The Haryana government has received 510 metric tonnes of Malathion worth Rs 1.15 crore, which had been supplied by the Union Government for checking the incidence of malaria in the state during the ensuing monsoon season.

Reviewing the ongoing various health schemes in the state with the Civil Surgeons here today, Financial Commissioner and Principal Secretary , Health Department, Mrs Urvashi Gulati said the Health Department was geared up for controlling malaria and steps had been taken to combat this disease effectively during the coming mansoon season.

She said a synthetic pyrethroid insecticide would be used for the first time in Karnal, Panipat and Sonipat districts.

Mrs Gulati said this decision had been taken in accordance with the instructions of the Union Government. She revealed that two rounds of spray of this insecticide would be carried from May 16 to October 15. The state government had procured 52 metric tonnes of this insecticide which was worth Rs one crore.

The staff had been recruited for undertaking spray work during the season and they had been properly trained in the spray technique by the concerned Civil Surgeons, she added.

Mrs Gulati also noted that June would be observed as Anti-Malaria Month and the health workers would motivate the people for creating awareness about the disease.
