Govt asked to stop Malaysian ship from coming to India for breaking

New Delhi, May 17 (UNI) Expressing concern over the environmental pollution threat due to incoming ship 'Blue Lady' from Malaysia, BJP leader Kalraj Mishra today asked the government to formulate a policy on shipbreaking in the country.

Speaking on a Special Mention in the Rajya Sabha, Mr Mishra said this asbestos-laden ship Blue Lady started from Malaysia on May 5 and would reach Aland in Gujarat on May 22 and demanded that the ship be stopped from coming to India for breaking as it would cause environmental pollution. He also demanded that the government should formulate a policy on ship breaking in the country.

BJP leader Shatrughan Sinha decried the delay in justice to Mumbai bomb blast victims and demanded the government and the judiciary to take fast action on this issue. He pointed out that even 13 years after the serial bomb blasts in Mumbai, many people are still languishing in jails without any judgment. He said the Judiciary should adopt a humanitarian approach and while awarding punishment to the guilty it should help innocent people live freely..

Congress member Janardhan Poojary expressed concern over the people dying in the country due to intense heatwave prevailing in many parts. He urged the government to take some steps to save the lives of the people, mostly rickshaw pullers, vendors and construction labourers, who die due to heatwave.

Mr Murli Manohar Joshi of the BJP said the Rangarajan Committee report on the selling price of petroleum products in the country be made public and implemented before the government decides to hike the prices of petroleum products.

Mr Jai Prakash Aggarwal of the Congress urged the government to protect ancient temples, ghats and houses on the banks of the Yamuna river in Delhi from the ongoing demolition drive. He said these are ancient heritage and part of Indian culture and so the government should take steps to protect them.

Samajwadi Party General Secretary Amar Singh expressed concern over the brain drain of trained doctors, especially psychiatrists, from the country and demanded that the government should take action against them. Pointing out that 125 psychiatrists, who went abroad for further studies and training, have not returned causing a shortage of these doctors in the country, he said action be taken against officials who sanctioned their leaves. Also the doctors be asked to come back and if they refused they be terminated from services.
