Delhi Govt asks for Railway, Defence doctors
New Delhi, May 17 (UNI) The Delhi Government today asked the Railways and Defence Ministries to deploy about 200 doctors in its strike-hit hospitals to tackle the crisis situation arising out of the indefinite work boycott of resident and junior doctors and medical students.
Delhi Health Minister Yoganand Shastri, after a review meeting here, said the move has been taken to handle OPD and other emergency services affected hospitals.
He said the Delhi government is following the action taken by the Centre.
Dr Shastri said yesterday Medical Superintendents of all the state government hospitals were issued directions that notices be sent to the striking resident doctors ''In case they do not return for duty, strict action would be initiated against them, as the strike is totally illegal...
The action to be initiated is break in service and also termination of services,''he added.
The Delhi Health Minister said the Medical Superintendents of Lok Nayak, Guru Tegh Bahadur and Gobind Ballabh Pant Hospitals had informed him that in some departments few doctors have reported for duty.
He said the services of about 100 doctors working in the other hospitals and dispensaries of the state government would be placed at the disposal of the Medical Superintendents of Lok Nayak, Guru Tegh Bahadur, Deendayal and Gobind Ballabh Pant Hospitals to strengthen the OPD's and other emergency medical services.
