Delhi drub West Bengal, Kerala overcome Maharashtra
Bangalore, May 17 (UNI) Delhi walloped West Bengal 23-0, while Kerala overcame a spirited challenge from Maharashtra 2-1 in the league matches of the 18th Sub-Junior National Women's Hockey Championship which began at KSHA stadium here today.
In the other matches of the day, hosts Karnataka thrashed Assam 11-0, Mizoram edged out Andhra 1-0 and Tamil Nadu drew with PEPSU 1-1.
In a Pool E encounter, Delhi scored at will against hapless West Bengal with Jasleen scoring a fine hat-trick. The other scorers were Monica and Meenu (3 each), Ashu, Bhawna, Kiran, Ansul and Sunitha (two each) and Niresh, Sulekha, Reena and Pooja (one each).
In Pool C, in a game played mainly in the mid-field, Ambili Thomas scored twice in the fifth and 50th minute to put Kerala on top. Melanie Sores reduced the margin in the 54th minute, but that proved not enough for Maharashtra.
Karnataka dominated over Assam in Pool D with Saba Firdos scoring five goals. B O Prajwal (two), while A S Bollamma, D M Asitha, S Yogeshwari and K S Sukhi scored the other goals. For Assam H Latha Devi scored the lone goal.
In a listless Pool B encounter, L R Thumi of Mizoram thumped the boards converting a penalty corner in the 39th minute to score the only goal of the match against Andhra.
In Pool A, Tamil Nadu had an upper hand forcing three short corners compared to two to that of PSPSU, but lacked good finish.
While S Namratha scored for the southern state in the very first minute, Hardeep Kaur brought the equaliser for PEPSU just two minutes later.
