Delhi BJP demands implementation of Tejinder Khanna Committee report
New Delhi, May 17 (UNI) BJP Delhi Pradesh President and Tejinder Khanna Committee Member Harsh Vardhan today demanded immediate implementation of the committee's recommendations including those on building bye laws and Master Plan 2021 so that ''uncertainty'' felt by the people may end.
The Central Urban Development Ministry should immediately implement the recommendations of the Tejinder Khanna Committee so that the people of Delhi could get relief, he said in a statement.
Dr Harsh Vardhan expressed grave concern on the fact that inspite of submission of the recommendations of the Tejinder Khanna Committee and passing of the Delhi Laws (Special Provisions) Bill 2006 the sealing and demolitions were continuing in Delhi and a condition of uncertainty was continued due to which people were ''terrified''.
He demanded constitution of a committee of five officers who would be competent to make necessary amendments in the Delhi Building bye-laws inconformity with the recommendations of Khanna Committee by notifying it and implementing it by next week.
Dr Harsh Vardhan said the Tejinder Khanna Committee had sought appointment from Urban Development Minister S Jaipal Reddy twice so that experience gained by the committee from the several meetings it had with institutions and individuals concerned could be exchanged.
The committee had to finally submit its report before completion of three months time on May 15 without getting to meet him.
The BJP leader said the Delhi Laws Bill 2006 as approved by Parliament was incomplete and would not help the people of the city by putting a moratorium on the sealing and demolitions only for a year.
He said the inclusion of the recommendations of Khanna Committee in the Master Plan 2021 was the only permanent solution for sealing and demolition problem which also included a provision for the constitution for an enforcement agency for monitoring any illegal construction in future.
