City court sentences man to 7-year RI for raping minor daughter

New Delhi, May 17 (UNI) A city court today sentenced a 40 year-old-man to seven years' rigorous imprisonment for raping his minor daughter in Dabri area in South-west Delhi, four years ago.

Patiala House Court Additional Sessions Judge (ASJ) S K Kaushik held the father of the victim, Rajesh Sharma, guilty of raping his 11-year-old daughter along with his friend Atma Ram and sentenced both to seven years' imprisonment.

The court further slapped a fine of Rs 1000 each on the convicted persons.

Raj Laxmi, the mother of the victim deposed in the court that, ''On September 27, 2002, she had gone to attend the 'shrad' of her father-in-law to Ashok Vihar. After returning she got to know from her daughter that, she had been raped by her husband and one of his associate Atma Ram. The victim was studying in school. Due to a scuffle between Raj Laxmi and Rajesh the victim started to reside with her maternal uncle since last 8-9 months. Rajesh was a habitual alcoholic,'' according to the prosecution.

Rajesh and Atma Ram were convicted under sections 376 (Rape) and 34 (Common Intention to Commit a Crime) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
