New Delhi, May 17 (UNI) Ultrasound machines in a nursing home that was carrying out sex-determination tests and claiming it could 'guarantee' medication for male child were sealed at Najafgarh in South-West Delhi, the Delhi Commission for Women said.

Action was taken against ''Gobhania Nirog Dham and X-Ray Lab'' following evidence that it was advertising ''Shartiya Ladka Hone Ki Oushadhi'' (guaranteed medication for male child birth), a spokesman for DCW said.

Advertising medication for male child birth is prohibited under section 22 of the Pre-conception and Pre-natal Diagnostic Techniques (PC-PNDT) Act, 1994.

''The license to conduct ultrasound tests at Gobhania Nirog Dham has been suspended and its machines have been sealed,'' he said.

The action by the DCW, the Resident Welfare Association and the PNDT Cell under the Directorate of Family Welfare followed a complaint from one of the executive members of the Najafgarh RWA.

A surprise check at the Hospital by the Chief District Medical Officer (South West) revealed that the hospital was functioning without mandatory registration from the Department of health services.

In a report to the DCW, the CDMO opined that the owner Dr Shiv Raj Chaudhary was ''indulging in blatant quackery and fleecing the gullible patients in gross violation of Medical Ethics.'' ''Consequently, a showcause notice was issued against him.

Also, registration issued in the name of 'Gobhania Nirog Dham and X-Ray Lab' under the PNDT Act has been suspended till further orders'', the spokesman said.
