Russia continues to scout for Indian students
Madurai, May 16 (UNI) Indian Graduates pursuing medicine in Russia account for 60 per cent of the students from here, who have opted to join the various higher education programmes in that country.
Disclosing this to newspersons here, on the eve of an Exhibition of Educational Opportunities in Russia, a Russian delegation, comprising academic administrators and facilitators, said an average of 600 to 800 students from India joined various institutions in their country.
Making it clear that these programmes in medicine and engineering were being offered under the self-financing stream, they said education offered was world class. Some of the institutions offering these courses have been top ranked by the World Health Organisation, they pointed out.
Russia, having 48 medical institutions and 640 technical institutes, recruits about 22,000 students every academic year and 50 per cent of the strength has been earmarked for the foreign quota, it was revealed.
Answering a question, they said English was also being offered as a medium of instruction at all institutions.
Replying to another question, they said students entering Russia for studies were safe and secure and rubbished reports of campus violence as an aberration.
The exhibition being organised here, in Coimbatore tomorrow and in Chennai on May 20 and 21, were part of the efforts to enlist more students from the country.
Study Abroad, an educational consultancy service, is holding the event in association with the International Russian Centre for Scientific and Cultural Cooperation.
