Police arrest one more suspect in explosives case
Aurangabad, Maharashtra, May 16 (UNI) The anti-terrorist squad of Mumbai police today arrested one more suspect and detained another in the onging investigation into the State's biggest haul of 43 kg of deadly RDX explosive besides arms and ammunition after they busted a terrorist module here on May 9.
Police sources told UNI one Bilal Ansari, 30, was picked up on the basis of information provided by Mohammed Amir, the first accused to be arrested in the case. Amir, an activist of banned Student Islamic Movement of India (SIMI), was in the jeep which was intercepted after a hot chase, and where first of the three seizures so far. The ATS sleuths had recovered ten Kalashnikov rifles along with 2,000 rounds of ammunition and 30 kgs of RDX from the jeep.
Ansari, who briefly worked as a caligraphist in a local Urdu daily, now ran his own shop of screen printing here. He hails from Malegaon. It was in Malegaon ATS made the third seizure of 13 Kgs of RDX, five AK-47 rifles, and 1,000 rounds of ammunition along with 20 magazines during a raid at the shop of an electrician on Sunday night.
Besides arresting electrician Abdullah Gani, police had also detained a homeopath, Dr Sharief Ansari alias Motiwale, on the charge of hiding the weapons and explosives in Abdullah's shop.
The ATS sleuths today also detained one Sheikh Mujahid,30, for interrogation as he is seen in a photograph with Amir, the SIMI activist. He has not been arrested so far, the sources said.
The second seizure from Ankari fort in Nashik on Saturday yielded 50 hand grenades, one AK-47 rifle along with 206 bullets.
With three seizures so far, the ATS has recovered 16 Kalashnikov rifles along with 3,202 rounds of ammunition, 43 kgs RDX and 50 hand grenades.
