Shmal Pereira wins 'Sports City Champion' title

Pune, May 16: Shmal Pereira of Mumbai, displaying a symmetrical and well-proportioned muscular physique, stood head and shoulder above the rest to claim the prestigious 'Sports City Champion' title today in the state-level best physique contest, hosted by the Navatej Foundation under the aegis of the Body Temple Gymnasium, at the Yeshwantrao Chavan auditorium at Kothrud here.

Pereira, after winning the gold in the above 75 kg class, excelled in the synchronised posing to reclaim the honours. Pereira not only claimed the glittering trophy but also a cheque of Rs 11,000.

The total prize money of Rs 65,000 was at stake in the competition which attracted as many as 150 musclemen from all over the state.

Devendra Vanvekar of Mumbai suburban who participated in above 75 kg class, bagged the best poser's prize, while Ganesh Pawar of Kolhapur who won the gold in the below 65 kg class was adjudged the most improved body builder. Both musclemen received a trophy each and Rs one thousand as the prize money. All the six winners in the six weight groups were awarded cash prizes of Rs 2500, Rs 2000, Rs 1500, Rs 1000, Rs 750 and Rs 500 respectively.

Below 65 kg: Ganesh Pawar (Kol) 1, Swapnil Newalkar (Thane) 2, Prakash Mhatre (Raigad) 3, Ajay Jagtap (Pune) 4, Jayawant Rodkar (Pune) 5, Yogesh Patil (Kol) 6.
