Over 2000 join Army job rally at quake-hit Tangdhar in J

Srinagar, May 16 (UNI) More than 2000 youth of earthquake-ravaged Tangdhar area in the Kashmir valley today took part in the Army's recruitment rally, organised to fulfill the demand of the locals.

A defence spokesman said the rally was organised by the Tangdhar Brigade and conducted by Branch Recruiting Office, Srinagar at Chhamkote in Tangdhar, which was devastated by a powerful earthquake on October 8 last year, killing several hundred people and rendering thousands homeless in the area.

The rally, inaugurated by the Commander of 104 Infantry brigade, also known as Tangdhar Brigade, was held to fulfill the demand of the locals to address the unemployment problem in the Tangdhar area, he added.

The spokesman said more than 2000 youth of Tangdhar were put through the selection process.

''The overwhelming response of the youth of Tangdhar to the recruitment rally vindicates the positive image of the Army in the eyes of the locals. This is yet another effort by the Tangdhar Brigade to wean away the youth from militancy and encourage them to join the mainstream,'' he added.
