Over 100 candidates to vie for 27 wards of Imphal Municipal council

Imphal, May 16 (UNI) Scrutiny for 111 candidates for the 27 wards of Imphal Municipal Council (IMC) elections was held today at the DC office of Imphal East and Imphal West.

Officials said here that the final list of the candidates would be confirmed after May 18 which is the last date of withdrawal.

Elections would be held on May 31 and ten seats have been reserved for women. Among the 111 candidates, 39 were women.

The Congress has put maximum number of candidates, which is 25, the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) 16, the BJP 14, the CPI 14, the RJD 7, the Manipur Peoples' Party 4 and the Samajwadi Party 2.

A Large number of supporters came to the DC offices to over see the scrutiny process and security had been beefed up.

The Congress and the CPI, both constituent of the ruling Secular Progressive Front (SPF) government in Manipur, have decided to go for a friendly contest.
