Bangalore, May 16 (UNI) leading Jeweller, C Krishnaiah Chetty and Sons, who had been in the jewellery business for more than 135 years planned to come out with a coffee table book on antique jewellery and anecdotes attached with them.

Company Managing Director Vinod Hayagriv told newsmen here that the Book would be authored by renowned art and jewellery historian Usha Balakrishnan who had penned Dance of the Peacock: Jewellery Traditions of India and Jewels of the Nizams.

Mr Hayagriv said that besides collections from the archives of the Company, efforts were being made to trace some of the missing links from other sources throwing more light on evolution of design, craftsmanship and traditions attached to jewellery in Southern India.

The project named Reminiscence would focus on the eventful 135 years of Krishnaiah Chetty and sons which started initially as a bead seller.

Mrs Balakrishnan speaking on the occasion said little had been researched or written about the jewellery of Southern India though the art and monuments spread across the region spoke extensively about the design and patterns of jewellery of yester years.

Referring to Belur and Halebid she said that the sculptures there depict rich designs, but little had been done to research on them.
