ISRO inks pact with 4 hospitals to expand telemedicine network
Bangalore, May 16 (UNI) Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) today signed Memoranda of Understanding (MoU) with four speciality hospitals in the country to further expand its telemedicine network.
The MoU was signed here by Mr A Bhaskaranarayana, Director, Satellite Communications Programme, on behalf of ISRO, with Manipal Hospital, Bangalore, Sir Ganga Ram Hospital, New Delhi, Madras Diabetic Research Foundation, Chennai and Dr Venkatrao Dawle Medical Foundation, Maharashtra, an ISRO release here said today.
ISRO Chairman G Madhavan Nair said the telemedicine programme was an example of societal orientation of Indian space porgramme.
He expressed happiness over several private speciality hospitals, besides state governments and NGOs, showing keen interest in establishing the telemedicine network to contirbute to a noble cause of extending qualtiy healthcare to the rural population.
Mr Nair also highlighted the efforts made by ISRO in establishing Village Resource Centres (VRCs) in association with NGOs, trusts and state and central agencies.
He emphasised the need to integrate telemedicine also in these VRCs along with space-enabled information related to natural resources, tele-education, farmers' advisory services, tele-fishery and others.
