Imbibe spirit of discipline to reap fruits of democracy:CM
Gangtok, May 16 (UNI) Sikkim Chief Minister Pawan Chamling today called upon the people to imbibe a spirit of discipline to reap the fruits of democracy.
''Democratic set-up came to the state following Sikkim's merger with the Indian Union in 1975 but we have not yet developed the discipline neded to discharge our responsibilities,'' Mr Chamling said while addressing a function organised to celebrate the state formation day here.
He urged the people to work collectively and asked each individual to contribute his mite to take the state to the path of development and fulfil the aspirations of the people.
The Chief Minister said Sikkim today is recognised as a peace loving and happening state all over the world and wanted the people to mantain it through their hard work.
He asked the bureaucrats to analyse the potential, strength and weakness of the state and explore ways and means to overcome the shortcomings.
Mr Chamling said the state has enough potential in floriculture, horticulture and tourism sector and appealed to the people to tap it fully for sustainable economic development.
Governor V Rama Rao said Sikkim had failed to fully utilise central funds given during the tenth plan period and asked the authorities to ensure that it did not recur.
Among others Mr B B Gooroong and Mr S N Limboo--former Chief Ministers and advisors to Chief Minister P Chamling--were present.
