Chandigarh, May 16 (UNI) The Punjab and Haryana High Court today fixed the next hearing of final arguments on a PIL, seeking CBI probe against Punjab Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh and his son in the alleged violation of foreign exchange rules, for May 24.

The PIL was filed by former union minister and Shiromani Akali Dal (Badal) leader Sukhdev Singh Dhindsa and seven other MPs.

A division bench of Justice Jagdish Singh Khehar and Paramjit Singh Patwalia passed the order after the resumption of the hearing in PIL.

The Centre, which is one of the respondents, informed that it did not intend to file a reply in the matter while Punjab government objected to the matter being treated as a PIL.

However, counsel for the petitioners reiterated that it was an important issue which could not be brushed aside.

Mr Dhindsa and other petitioners said ''Ran Inder Singh, CM's son have violated foreign exchange rules by floating a company 'Punjab Intranet'.'' The petitioners have also prayed for quashing the notification vide which a commission of inquiry headed by Justice B S Nehra, a retired Judge of the High Court, had been instituted.

They also sought the commission's report, exonerating the respondents of any wrongdoing, be quashed on the ground that the state government was not competent to conduct the inquiry into the foreign exchange rules violations.

Mr Dhindsa and others have also sought directions to the Centre to ensure impartiality in the investigation.
