Demolition drive to stop once new bill comes into effect: Maken
New Delhi, May 16 (UNI) Union Minister for Urban Development Ajay Maken today said as soon as the Delhi Laws (Special Provisions) Bill 2006 became a law, the on-going sealing/demolition drive in the national capital will be stopped.
After the assent from the President, the enactment would be notified, and exercising power given under it, the Centre would direct the Municipal Corporation of Delhi to stop the sealing/demolition drive in the city, he told a delegation of traders who called on him.
The minister, however, said the bill was not a permanent solution and such a solution lay in bringing necessary changes in the Master Plan and building bye laws by taking into consideration the ground realities.
''Lethargic attitude of the administrative machinery and sab chalta hai thinking was the basic reason behind commercial estabilishments coming up in residential areas, and hence one fraternity (traders) cannot be singled out (for fixing the blame),'' he also added.
