D Sudharsanam takes oath as Pro-tem speaker of TN Assembly

Chennai, May 16 (UNI) Senior Congress MLA D Sudharsanam, who was appointed as Pro-tem speaker of the Tamil Nadu Assembly, was today administered oath by Governor S S Barnala at a simple function at Raj Bhavan here.

Mr Sudharsanam, who was elected to the State Assembly for the fourth time, was twice elected from Poonamallee in 1991 and 1996 and from Tiruvallur in 2001 and again from Poonamallee in the May eight Assembly elections.

Chief Minister M Karunanidhi, his cabinet colleagues, Chief Secretary L K Tripathy, Home Secretary Pavan Raina, Assembly secretary K Selvaraj, senior Congress leader S R Balasubramoniyam were among others were present at the brief function.

Mr Sudharsanam would administer oath to the newly-elected members when the Assembly meets for the first time tomorrow. After the swearing-in, the House would meet again on May 19 to elect the Speaker and Deputy Speaker of the House.
