CPI calls upon PM to halt Reliance land deal
Mohali, May 16 (UNI) The Punjab CPI today called upon the Prime Minister to ''save Punjab from the attack of Reliance and other corporate houses that are trying to annex huge tracts of land with the connivance of the state government''.
In a memorandum addresssed to the Prime Minister and submitted to the Deputy Commissiner here, the CPI demanded that the 'notorious' land deal which the state government has entered into with Reliance Industries Limited (RIL) should be scrapped. The deal involves selling a 20 acre plot of land at Mohali belonging to the state Mandi Board to RIL at a price of Rs two crore while the actual commercial price of the land is Rs 1000 crores, the memorandum pointed out.
The CPI leaders led by Dr Joginder Dayal, member National Executive and Comrade Jagroop Singh, secretary CPI Punjab staged a dharna here against the RIL deal. The CPI leaders claimed that thousands of tracts of precious agriculture and prime land was being sold to multi-national companies like Reliance, Wipro, Mittal Steel and other corporate houses by the government at throw away prices.
