Amendment to office of profit law to shield CPI(M): Mamata
Kolkata, May 16 (UNI) Trinamool Congress supremo Mamata Banerjee today described as ''illegal'' the UPA government's move to amend the law on office of profit and said her party members in the Rajya Sabha would vote against the Bill in Parliament.
Lambasting the Centre allegedly for bowing to the pressure of the Marxists, she told reporters that the move was aimed at protecting the CPI(M) MPs, who were enjoying office of profit.
''The CPI(M) has taken over Parliament and it was under their pressure that the Government wants to force its way for a safeguard for the erring MPS. We will vote against the Parliament (Prevention of Disqualification) Amendment Bill,'' she said.
Ms Banerjee alleged that 17 out of 47 CPI(M) MPs were enjoying office of profit and demanded that all of them resign as members of Parliament.
