6 militants, Pak infiltrator killed, JCO wounded in J and K

Srinagar, May 16 (UNI) Six militants, including a Hizbul Mujahideen (HM) commander and a Pakistani infiltrator were killed, while a Junior Commissioned Officer (JCO) was wounded in Jammu and Kashmir overnight, official sources said.

They said militants also abducted one Mushtaq Ahmad from Sumbal last night.

Sources said troops and Special Operation Group (SOG) of Jammu and Kashmir police launched a joint operation at Kulgam in the south Kashmir district of Anantnag last evening to nab militants.

However, when the troops were sealing the area, militants attacked them with automatic weapons from a house. Later, the cordon around the particular house was further tightened and militants were repeatedly being asked to surrender. One JCO was injured in the firing by the militants.

Sources said the operation to flush out the militants was resumed at first light this morning.

They said security forces allegedly blasted the house after the holed up militants refused to surrender and kept firing and hurling grenades.

The house from where the militants were firing was razed to ground.

Bodies of two LeT militants were recovered from under the debris of the damaged house.

Sources said security forces at the border gunned down a Pakistani infiltrator immediately after he sneaked into this side from Pakistan Occupied Kashmir (POK) in Keran sector early this morning. An AK rifle and other arms and ammunition were recovered from the slain militant.

Security forces on a tip off conducted a search operaion at Banihal on the Srinagar-Jammu national highway in Doda district late last night.

When the troops were searching the area, militants attacked them with automatic weapons. Security forces also retaliated and in the fierce clash, four Hizbul Mujahideen (HM) militants, including a commander, were killed. Four AK rifles and other arms and ammunition were recovered from the slain militants, who were involved in a number of militancy related incident in Doda district.
