Section of medicos abstain from classes against OBC quota
Bangalore, May 15 (UNI) Expressing solidarity with medicos in Delhi and Mumbai, a section of the medical students in Karnataka today boycotted classes in protest against the Union Government's move to reserve 27 per cent seats to OBCs in higher education.
In the city, students of the government-run Bangalore Medical College (BMC) took out a protest march. However, BMC Principal Rajeswari said most of the students attended classes today.
Yesterday, hundreds of students had taken out a procession in the city. Student representatives also met the Governor and submitted a memorandum. However, the police had to detain five students to bring the situation under control. The students were released later.
A Belgaum report said students of the Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College in Belgaum took out a peaceful march.
In Mysore, students of the Government medical college attended classes sporting black ribbons in protest against the police action against medicos in Mumbai.
