SC dismisses petition regarding removal of slum dwellers
NEW DELHI, May 15 (UNI) The Supreme Court today dimissed the petition filed by K.T. C.Residents Welfare Association challenging the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) move to remove them from where they were allegedly relocated after having been removed from different JJ Clusters in Delhi.
A bench comprising Mr Justice B P Singh and Mr Jusice R V Raveendran, however directed the DDA not to remove these residents for three days from today to enable them to approach the Delhi high court for relief.
Earlier, senior counsel M N Krishnamani, appearing for the petitioners, pleaded that the members of the association were resettled on pavements built by the government all over Delhi. The government had built 1762 low cost flats for the slum dwellers.
Earlier Justice B.P. Singh remarked that the petitioners were not entitled to any relief such as alternative sites and that the court would not interfere unless and until the slumdwellers had some legal right.
